All the guns I want...

All the guns I wish I had….

Every day, I find something else that I must add to the collection. As you can imagine, this is difficult to support financially and in terms of my marriage…it gets rough. Why do I want so many guns? A more basic question is why do we want? Very often the answer is… they made it so I want to own it. Other times it is explained as a need. I need a gun for the front door and back door. I need a Zombie gun and a alien gun. I need a FDE and an Arctic White AR pistol. My experience has been that the purchase of a new gun is a quest of sorts, a journey in understanding what makes it special, unique and the underlying desirability. This journey takes on a life of its own and evolves into a passion, a yearning to fill the void created by discovering that this gun…this one piece of machinery, was missing from my life.

Once I have it, I cherish every part of setting it up, getting the necessary accessories, sighting it in and then shelving it to serve as a reminder of what I had. What I had was the wantand now that it is gone I miss it.

After Shot Show I was in a significant amount of overload with so many guns to choose from. I saw myself as a buyer…not for the shop but for myself. It’s amazing how those childhood motivations kick in when so many goodies are around. So, I was thinking about the next gun. It really is always about the next one, isn’t it?

The 50 Beowulf by Alexander Arms. I frequently make the mistake of watching Demolition Ranch on YouTube. That guy is crazy and awesome at the same time. He was showing off his new Alexander Arms 50 Beowulf and called it a T Rex killer. Now I never thought of that one but you do really need a T Rex killer. Let’s make it more realistic. You need a dinosaur killer. I saw Jurassic Park and, conspiracy theory or not, it can happen. You need to be prepared. A short range gut busting behemoth that would knock down a pissed off T. Rex or fast moving raptor. I need that one.

The other class I want if the BMG. Why do I want a rifle that shoots $5 bills downrange? Because there is a void in my life and I need to fill it. From $4000 to $12000 this one is a hard sell. Not only for my wife (ask forgiveness rather than permission) but for me as well. I am not sure how some people do it. That is have one of these things lying around. That’s $7000 for the Barrett and $4000 for a Bushmaster. Just sitting there. But look at it. It is just so freaking cool. I want that one.

There are a plethora of examples of the wants from a Kris Vector, CZ P10c, a Marlin Trapper (Bear), Desert Eagle…..I might need to get a second job. The point here is that there is a world out there to explore. It doesn’t have to be a new gun. The wants may drive us to expensive ends but they also drive us to research, learn and discover. Wanting a new grill, a new car or wanting to raise cattle or chickens open doors of discovery. If you just sit by and watch the cars go by you won’t get anything out of life.

A quote from the TV show The Wire says, “You can’t lose if you don’t play”. I think that it jacked. You lose if you don’t play. Sure, you can avoid the struggle, but you can’t grow as a human without that struggle. The want. It takes these wants and interests in life to make it unique. OK, the grass is greener over there thing comes up, however, there is more to that. The grass may be greener and you do need to check it out to see if it is true. Not to move to the neighbor’s yard but to figure out how he does it. To want something better and make it better in your own day to day.
