Like many Americans, I am growing tired of the protests and domestic terrorism that is afflicting our country. To be clear, the message was heard and received the day of the inciting event in Minneapolis. No reasonable, civil citizen believes otherwise. The point here is that the message was received. Got it. We know and we are picking up what you are putting down. Now what?
Protesting, burning things, destroying property, erasing history is easy. Destroying things is easier than building things. That seems like a clear statement. I don’t think anyone would argue that point. Well, other than extremist that would say it harder to stand up for yourself when you have been oppressed in society of systemic racism. Again, violence, destruction…is easy….solutions are hard.
Well then, defund the police. That will begin to fix systemic racism? Putting the regular citizens in harms way is the solution? The general concept is moronic. They need more funding, better education, conflict training, social and psychology skills, medical training. They need to be the best and brightest, with integrity and high moral character — (which describes the majority of current police). Yes there are bad elements to these groups. Let’s fix them—not seek to blame societies troubles on them. The police don’t arm drug dealers, or supply the drugs, rob the grocery or throw the bricks, stigmatize religion, or fundamentally alter the perception of family identity.
I wish I had a solution. The answer. I think it comes with family, your local community, maybe your faith. I am certain it doesn’t come from my government. Integrity comes from within, the moral compass or the foundation life’s choices are made.
Stay strong, look out for each other!
