Well Shot Show has come and gone for 2018. I believe that I will be processing this experience for the next few months. All of us worked to see the thinks we thought were important to Wrightson Defense. Ultimately, there were distractions galore that prevented any systematic review of the show from Taran Butler to Julie Golob.
We did find the CAA micro RONI that will be in the line up. This product will allow you to take your concealed carry (like the Glock 19) and essentially convert it into a tactical short barreled rifle. I see this as a great advantage for those who appreciate firearms but not to the extent that I do. They can buy the one gun they will carry and for about $300 get a second platform for home defense.
We came across some soft armor vests by Safe Life that we all wanted. These are Level IIIa+ that will take any small arms fire and stop pick or knife penetration. These are light weight and can be worn under clothing or in a tactical vest format. Pricing looks to be near $400 (yep not a typo---).
Mike and I have been looking for some in the ear electronic hearing protection. there was not a shortage of vendors but we found one with a good price and amazing function. Etymotic has these in the ear with normal or enhanced modes. They will come in a charging case that can recharge the plugs ~12 times on a single charge. I was told they will last ~12 hours on a single charge as well. The group there was a precision rifle team who has no problems with high caliber rifle shots. The rechargeable platform will go for near $350.
I have to admit that one of the most interesting people to meet was Marty Daniel of Daniel Defense. I am sure there were CEOs there from other AR manufacturers, but Mr. Daniel stood out to me. Lisa (Public and Business Relations VP) insisted on a one on one meeting with him. Despite having many people there to talk with him, he gave us time and was very interested in our business. He told us about the suppressor line and his experience on range day. "I really couldn't tell a difference between the 308 and 5.56" running suppressors. I have not been a huge fan of Daniel Defense mostly because of the price point. However, these are works of art that can stand up to combat military standards. This is a gun you want to have in your armory. You will see that in the next few weeks, I will be focusing our business on a couple of AR manufactures and Daniel Defense is one.
Overall this was a great experience. Glen and Mike have their purchases lined up for the next year. I will get a post together that lists out each of our top 5 guns we want after going to Shot Show in the next few days.
